Affordable Housing
The housing crisis is pushing East Bay families out of the communities they built — and Mia is fighting to make sure families can afford to stay.
The cost of rent and housing affordability are among Oakland's most serious and persistent concerns. Mia is advancing legislation that creates new affordable housing, holds local governments accountable for their homelessness response, and protects renters from displacement. She believes long-time homeowners, especially Black and brown homeowners who built this community, deserve to stay in it.
Mia also believes housing stability is inseparable from every other issue she fights for. Stable housing reduces recidivism, supports children's academic success, keeps families together, and is foundational to the kind of community well-being that makes neighborhoods safe. You cannot have one without the other.
